Xavier Lockett is 18-years old and lives in Central Florida. Xavier has been diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition that has placed his life in jeopardy, and he is currently recovering from a kidney transplant. He has always wanted to dedicate his life to being a professional artist working with pipe cleaners but never believed he would be able to live out his dream. Was it even possible to be a professional pipe cleaner artist? That was when he came across the artwork of Don Porcella. While working with Make-A-Wish Foundation, Xavier came across Porcella’s work and his eyes and attitude immediately brightened. It then became Xavier’s one true wish to meet Don Porcella.

Make-A-Wish contacted Porcella and asked him to write a letter of encouragement to Xavier while recovering from surgery, giving him tips on how to become a professional artist. Porcella offered instead to have Xavier fly to his studio in New York City and work alongside him, teaching Xavier his techniques and processes and awakening Xavier’s imagination and opening him up to new possibilities. This work created together will be exhibited at a one-night only exhibition at Ozaneaux Artspace, an alternative venue in Chelsea dedicated to supporting emerging artists and championing social change. Xavier’s work will be for sale and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Xavier. The opening will take place on Thursday, October 3rd from 6:00-8:00pm at Ozaneaux Artspace, 515 W. 20th Street, #5E, NYC.

We invite you to join Big Deal Arts and Make-A-Wish Foundation in making Xavier’s dreams come true. Let’s make this a truly unforgettable experience for Xavier and make him the biggest art star in New York City for a day!
